ART use tied to lower rate of anal cancer precursor in HIV+ MSM

HIV-positive men who have sex with men using combination antiretroviral therapy (ART) had a lower rate of anal intraepithelial neoplasia (AIN)—which may develop into anal cancer—than did untreated men in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. And men not taking ART had a significantly higher rate of infection with human papillomavirus (HPV), which can cause anal cancer.
